Relationship and Attachment Issues

As human beings, we are wired for connection. Relationships can be a source of love, joy, support, and meaning, but they can also bring up feelings of insecurity, loneliness, conflict, or self-doubt. Whether you're navigating the challenges of dating, entering a new relationship, healing from a breakup, noticing recurring patterns across relationships, or wanting to cultivate deeper and more meaningful connections, it can be difficult to understand why certain experiences feel so overwhelming or why we sometimes find ourselves stuck in familiar cycles.

You may be wondering what qualities to look for in a partner, trying to better understand your own needs, learning how to communicate more effectively, or seeking to become more assertive and authentic in relationships. You may find yourself repeatedly giving too much, struggling to set boundaries, fearing rejection, or questioning why the same challenges seem to emerge in different relationships.

Many of the ways we relate to ourselves and others are shaped by our earliest experiences of connection and safety. These patterns, often referred to as attachment patterns, are not signs that something is wrong with you. Rather, they are understandable adaptations that developed in the context of your life and relationships.

For instance, you may find yourself:

  • Feeling anxious or insecure in relationships

  • Worrying about being rejected, abandoned, or "too much"

  • People-pleasing or having difficulty setting boundaries

  • Withdrawing, shutting down, or avoiding conflict

  • Repeating similar patterns across relationships

  • Struggling with trust, vulnerability, or intimacy

  • Feeling lonely or disconnected, even in the presence of others

While we may have been hurt in relationships, relationships can also be a place where healing and new experiences of connection become possible.

Therapy can help you explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, helping you better understand yourself, strengthen your relationships, communicate your needs more effectively, and cultivate greater emotional safety and connection, both with others and with yourself.
